峨眉山和樂山大佛英文介紹，EmeiMountainliessevenkilometerssouthwestofEmeishanCityandisoneofthefourmountainrangesinChinathatBuddhistsconsidersacred.ItwasincludedintheUNESCOworldheritagelistin1996.Themountainstretchesmorethan200kilometersfromsouthtonorth.Itsmainpeak,WanfoTop,is3,099metersabovesealevel.SinceancienttimesEmeiMountainhasbeendescribedas"BeautyUnderHeaven".TempleswerebuiltasearlyastheEasternHanDynasty(25——220)andBuddhismwasintroducedtothemountainduringtheJinDynasty.IntheMingandQingdynastiesthereweremorethan150temples.
AlegendclaimsthatthemountainwaswhereSamantabhadragavelecturesonBuddhismandmosttempleshouseastatueofSamantabhadra.ThemainscenicspotsonthemountainincludetheBaoguoTemple,WannianTemple,Fohutemple,QingyinPavilion,HeilongjiangTunnel,HongchunPlatform,XianfengTemple(JiulaoCave),XixiangPondandGoldenSummit.Theseplacesareatdifferentaltitudesandhavedifferentclimates.Temperaturesatthetopofmountainare15degreeslowerthanatthefoot.EmeiMountainisawell-knownnaturalmuseumwithmorethan3,000specimensofplantsand2,000typesofanimalsincludinggroupsofmonkeysthatappearonthemountainroadsandfascinatethetourists.

BaoguoTemplesitsatthefootofthemountainattheentranceandexitofthemountainarea.ThetemplewasbuiltduringthereignofMingEmperorWanli(1573——1620).About15kilometersfromtheBaoguoTempleisWannianTemple,oneofthemaintemplesinthemountainarea.WannianTemple,ortheTempleofSamantabhadraasitwasknownbeforetheMingDynasty,wasbuiltduringthereignofEmperorLong'anoftheEasternJindynasty(397——401).IthasnobeamsandhousesabronzestatueofBuddhaSamantabhadramountedonasix-toothedwhiteelephantcastin1980,thefifthyearoftheNorthernSongDynasty.Thestatueis7.3metershighandweighs62tons.XianfengTempleissituatedathefootoftheJiulaoPeakandtheoldhallswerebuiltwithtinsheetsandirontiles.Theintacthallswererebuiltin1779.FohuTempleislocatedonekilometerwestofBaoguoTempleandatthefootofFohuHill.Itisoneofthelargesttempleinthemountainarea.Rebuiltin1651,itcoversanareaof13,000squaremetersandisaccessiblefromthehighway.AttheGoldenSummit,thepinnacleofthemountainarea3,065metersabovesealevel,isPuguangHallofTemple.ItwasconstructedduringtheEasternHanDynastyandhasbeenrebuiltseveraltimesafterbeingstruckbylightning.TheGoldenSummitisanidealplacetoviewthesunrise,theseaofclouds,the"Buddhistlights"and"Sacredlamps".

TheGiantBuddhaontheeastbankofMingjiangRiverinLeshanCity,SichuanProvince,restshisfeetwherethreerivers——theMinjiang,QingyiandDadu——join.TheBuddhafacesEmeiMountainacrosstheriverandatitsbackisthewesternslopeofLingyunMountain.Standingat70.7meterswithshoulders24meterswideitisanimpressivesight.Awaterdrainagesystemreduceserosionbyrainandslowsweathering.

Thestatuewasbegunin713andcompletedin803.Totherightofthestatueaplankroadwithnineturnswasbuiltanditisnowfamousasthenine-turnplankroad;itgoesfromthebottomtothetop.
